Bungie was scolded by laid-off employees: We have no money to eat, and the CEO is also showing off his luxury car collection
After the recent layoffs at the highly regarded video game studio Bungie, an eye-popping fact has emerged: Even as the studio claims to be facing financial losses, the CEO is still spending heavily on vintage cars.
Recently, sources found that CEO Pete Parsons spent $2.40 million bidding for more than 20 classic cars in the past year and a half, and just before layoffs, he also spent $380,000 to buy four.
The news sparked outrage and frustration among staff, with employees reporting that Parsons had invited the fired person to visit his new car two days before the layoffs. In addition, former community manager Liana Ruppert also revealed on social media that before the layoffs, she and other community managers were struggling to make ends meet, while Parsons showed off her luxury car and invited them to visit.
What's more incredible is that Bungie had already undergone a round of layoffs, affecting 8% of its staff. However, during the "financial loss", Parsons did not hesitate to buy antique cars.
According to Glassdoor's estimates, the average Bungie employee earns $75,000 a year. That means Parsons buys vintage cars worth the annual salary of 30 employees!
An anonymous employee said Parsons' behaviour was incomprehensible because he had assured staff that there would be no redundancies. This blatant double standard is unacceptable.
So far, Bungie has not responded to the CEO and executives' purchase of vintage cars. However, the scandal has undoubtedly damaged the studio's reputation and raised concerns among employees about the company's management.
